Camden Brown Shines in Cowboys Preseason Opener Against Seahawks

SEATTLE — Undrafted rookie wide receiver Camden Brown made a strong statement in the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks, continuing the impressive form he has shown throughout training camp.

Brown, who joined the Cowboys after going undrafted out of Georgia Southern, quickly showed that his playmaking ability can translate to the NFL level. Through the first two-plus quarters at Lumen Field, he led Dallas receivers with 62 receiving yards on three receptions from three targets, while also recording two touchdowns.

The rookie’s two scoring plays came from quarterbacks Sam Howell and Joe Milton, with both passes resulting in spectacular catches.

“When the ball is in the air, it’s mine,” Brown said after the game, explaining the mentality that has fueled his performances throughout camp. He added that the mindset has been part of his approach since his college days at Georgia Southern and Auburn.

Brown’s determination is also deeply connected to his family. His younger sister was diagnosed with kidney failure as an infant and doctors once believed she would not survive beyond the age of three. She continued to defy expectations and lived to the age of 17, giving Brown an additional source of motivation throughout his football journey.

That experience has helped shape Brown’s approach to the game. Rather than taking his opportunity for granted, he said he tries to play with gratitude every day.

“I don’t feel complacent any day,” Brown explained. “I wake up with an edge, and show gratitude.”

His performance also earned plenty of praise from the Cowboys’ quarterbacks. Howell, who connected with Brown for one of his touchdowns, highlighted the rookie’s work ethic, preparation and ability to make difficult catches.

Howell said Brown has consistently put in extra time studying the playbook and developing his game. He also expressed confidence in giving Brown opportunities in one-on-one situations, particularly when the ball is thrown deep.

Joe Milton shared a similar reaction after seeing the undrafted rookie make an impressive one-handed catch.

“It was great, man, just to see a rookie come in, undrafted, and to make a catch like that,” Milton said.

Brown’s breakout performance could also have implications for the Cowboys’ roster decisions. The rookie currently shares jersey No. 6 with edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku, who indicated that Brown may eventually need a different number if he earns a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Cowboys have several wide receivers competing for roster positions behind established names such as CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Ryan Flournoy. Brown understands that earning a roster spot will require more than making highlight-reel plays.

For him, the key is consistency, reliability and building trust with the coaching staff.

“It’s just about being dependable, gaining trust from the coaches, from anybody,” Brown said.

Brown’s journey to Dallas has already included plenty of adversity. After transferring from Auburn to Georgia Southern for his final college season, he produced 1,079 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2025. His performance earned him First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors as well as the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year award.

Now, Brown appears to be taking another major step forward.

With training camp continuing and the Cowboys preparing for upcoming joint practices against the New Orleans Saints, the rookie wide receiver has given Dallas coaches another compelling reason to keep watching his progress.

If Brown can maintain the same level of production and consistency, his chances of making the Cowboys’ 53-man roster could continue to rise.

For an undrafted rookie, Camden Brown has already made sure the Cowboys—and their fans—know his name.
